Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter in an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
Jones came down on the foot of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the floor grabbing his knee.
The veteran player, that is leading the league this season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the problem.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Right away, he understood he was hurt," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who is injured, it's difficult, particularly somebody as talented as him. We will know more tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am more worried primarily about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
