The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
