The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
