Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a TV crew member subsequent to Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the operator. That's just me. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"One thing is certain, I defend any team and my club, that’s for sure. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "No - as long as you talk with respect as I do, it’s not a problem," he said, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, very much so."

Controversial Decisions

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle against Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Upcoming Milestone

Guardiola will take charge of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, it means that every season we have been there," he commented.

The club has ten points from four matches in the group, while Leverkusen have five.
