Recent details have emerged regarding the tragic demises of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.

A Initial Report

According to a report citing a confidential source, a massage therapist arriving for an appointment first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the residence. The practitioner then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides close by.

When she went into the residence, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, emergency responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently in custody without bail.

Disputed Reports

The anonymous source challenged several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that time.

Furthermore pushed back against circulated suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "apprehensive" about Nick's actions in the preceding period. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

This correction also extends to reports of alleged "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. Although the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.

Investigation Timeline

According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the state of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a period of time.

Nick Reiner was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the family home. He was due to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
