Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in the recent violent attack on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their killer carried on following the freeing by local law enforcement of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, remarking: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were injured in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the media outlet.

Officers that searched the lodging seized two handguns and magazines when the individual was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to records. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
