Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
