Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
