Adult Swim's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
